It was Lowry’s first return to Toronto since 2020, and as expected, it was a sellout crowd, with close to 20,000 fans giving him a touching welcome. After the game, which the Heat won, 114-109, the veteran playmaker was generous with his gratitude, per the report of ESPN.

“It’s something I’m going to cherish for a long, long time. I got the win, so that made it better. Even if I didn’t win, it would have been a great night, a special night. It meant the world to me for the fans to show their appreciation, give me an ovation like that. The first time is always special and you don’t forget that.”

Despite his exit from the Raptors, which he helped win a championship in 2019, many still consider him a beloved figure in Toronto. According to The Athletic’s Erik Koreen, the 36-year-old Lowry admitted that he noticed all the fans wearing his jersey.

“I seen a lot. I’m telling you. It’s awesome. It’s a great feeling. It was amazing. It’s unfathomable how many people (wore my jersey). Plus, it means I’m old as hell because I was able to have so many jerseys. Nine years of jerseys. Pretty cool.”

Clearly, Lowry will forever have a kinship with the Raptors and vice versa. As they say, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
